It seems like everyone and every-thing is on Facebook these days. The more popular it becomes, the more chances there are for you to be annoyed, embarrassed, or even put in danger by the free social networking service. Adam Dachis of Lifehacker recently posted a wonderful guide on how to avoid doing stupid things on Facebook, in which he explains the problems that we face when using Facebook, and how to easily solve each problem. Here are just a few of his tips and tricks that I’ve found useful when using the social networking behemoth.

Regularly Check Approved Apps

Many apps interact with Facebook and it’s a good idea to regularly delete apps you’re not using and change permissions on other apps. Many people have had embarrassing moments when an app shared something on Facebook that they didn’t realize, all because they hadn’t reviewed the app’s permissions.

Filter Your News Feed

Want to hide certain people’s posts on Facebook without unfriending them? Only want to be notified of important events in people’s lives? Using Facebook’s feed options, you can quickly and easily edit your News Feed and only see the things you want to see.

Update Privacy Settings

Want to keep your employer or other strangers from seeing too much about you on Facebook? Edit your privacy settings to disallow people from tagging you in their photos, posting to your wall, or even inviting you to use certain apps.

Use a Strong Password

Nothing can be more embarrassing than a hacked Facebook account. Using software like 1Password from AgileBits, you can generate a strong and unique password in order to keep your Facebook account secure.
